January 30 - February 10 (Week 22 - 23)

Week 22 - 23 (January 30 - February 10)

Area
We are continuing to work hard at finding the area of irregular shapes. I must say, the kids are getting much better at this. They are finally understanding ways to break apart these shapes in order to find the area of the entire shape.

Expert Projects
After another month of hard work on their expert projects, the kids presented them to the class. The kids are getting much better at finding their information and also presenting. Their presentation voice and body language are becoming much more audience friendly!

Standardized Writing
We have been preparing for our district writing assessment. We've worked on a few prompts and also looked at some exemplars to help prepare the kids and give them a visual of what a passing score should look and sound like. The kids have really taken pride in assessing their own writing and working to improve it!

Working on editing!

Biomes and Food Chains
I believe that this has been the most fun we've had working on a unit of study! The kids have really enjoyed researching the different biomes and  taking a closer look at the animals that live there and have to adapt to their environment.

January 16 - 27 (Week 20 - 21)

Week 20 - 21 (January 16 - 27)

Visiting the State House
What a great day to visit the state house! The weather was beautiful! The kids had a great time visualizing and seeing in person, the things that they had learned in class. They were in awe at the beauty of the state house. However, I think that they enjoyed being able to interact with the tour guide when he asked questions in regards to revolutionary and Civil War heroes. That were so excited that they knew most of the answers.

March on Washington Simulation
In order to honor Martin Luther King Jr. we simulated a March on Washington. The kids really enjoyed the march and discussing the parallels between this march and the things that are happening in our society today.

Area
Now that the kids are feeling quite confident with the area of regular rectangular shapes, we have begun looking at the area of irregular shapes. This has proven a challenge for the kids, but we are continuing to work at it.

Arts Day
Arts day was a blast! The kids were able to participate in so many fun and engaging activities!
