Week 26 - 27 (February 27 - March 10)

Black History: Getting to Know Malcolm X
We 3rd grade teachers got together and decided to do a concept day in order to honor Black History Month. Each teacher chose a different African American who may not be as well known as others and we presented that person to each 3rd grade class. The students were so consumed with the different people and wanted to know more. Many of our kids have now begun their own research to find out more about these inspiring African Americans. I chose to present Malcolm X to the students because so many of them know Martin Luther King Jr. but not many of them know Malcolm. They were really excited to learn more about him, who he was, and what he stood for.

Birthday Thanks
My birthday was amazing!! I can't thank you al enough for the many many gift!! I am one lucky teacher!!

Celebrating Dr. Seus
The kids had a great time learning about Dr. Seuss and engaging in the different dress up days to honor his work and contributions.

For the Love of Reading
Nothing warms my heart more than independent reading time. Our kids love and cherish their reading time.

February 13 - 24 (Week 24 - 25)

Week 24 - 25 (February 13 - 24)

Valentine's Day Celebrations
The kids were so excited about Valentine's Day that it seemed only right to make a whole day out of it. We fell in love with fractions, read a nonfiction piece informing us how Valentine's Day was started, and created some sweet cards for our loved ones.

Why Authors' Write
We've been discussing the 3 reason that authors write: to inform, to persuade, or to entertain. The kids too some time to look into their bags of books to see what type of books they had and what types of author writing that they are interested in. We also discussed reasons why authors would want to engage in these types of writing.

Celebrating Zakia
Zakia's mom brought in cupcakes, drinks, and treat bags to celebrate Zakia's birthday!!!

Fraction, Fractions, Everywhere!
Now that we're working on Fractions, fractions seem to be EVERYWHERE! The kids are noticing all of the different fraction around them, in their books, in their lunch, and everywhere else. The kids have really taken a liking to fractions and are doing very well with them.

Celebrating Black History
The Black History Program was amazingly beautiful! The kids really enjoyed themselves and learned a great deal about some of the African Americans who have gone unnoticed over time.
