Week 2 (August 25 - 29)

Week TWO (August 25 – 29)
Another Exciting and busy week of school has taken place!! We’ve continued to work on our classroom procedures and also review math and ELA concepts from first grade. We’ve also started to incorporate some brain breaks into our class through GO NOODLE! The kids love this 5 to 10 minute break where they can get up and get active!!

Math
I am a true believer that we can learn mathematical concepts more effectively through games. The students have been playing games such as “Sum Dice”, “Race to 100”, and “Even Steven/Odd Todd” to explore addition, add and even numbers. Not only have they been learning, but they’ve enjoyed playing the games as well.

ELA
ELA has been very hands on for the students. They have been using word play to help with their spelling and sight words. This week we began with our first read aloud “Star Girl”. Students have also had time to visit our classroom library and choose a book of their interest. We are still working on choosing a “just right” book; so don’t be alarmed if your child comes home with a book that he or she is struggling with.

Next Week
We will continue working on choosing a “just right book”, addition, subtraction, and writing. We will also begin our first IB unit: WHERE WE ARE IN PLACE AND TIME! With this unit we will be discussing communities. If you can, talk to your child about what they believe a community is and what it consists of. I’m looking forward to another awesome week!!

1st Week of School!

Ms. Tinsley’s Second Grade Class

WOW! What a great first week of school!!

The students and I have spent a great deal of time getting to know one another and building a strong sense of community in our classroom. Speaking of community I would like to thank you all for helping with the “Me Bags”. They were a real success and a real joy to present!!!

We’ve also spent a great deal of time working on procedures to help our classroom run smoothly. One way we’re helping our classroom run smoothly is by assigning jobs to each student. Everyone filled out a job application for the job they wanted and in that application they explained why they thought that would be a good job for them. They all seem to be really excited about their jobs and are taking them very seriously.

This week
We will continue to work on our classroom procedures and strengthening our community. We will also begin some writing and math activities, so that I can see where each student is and where to begin our instructional time.

Starting Monday students will bring home their take home binder. This binder will go home every day and come back to school every day. It will contain their weekly homework assignment, school newsletter, classroom newsletter, a communication folder where you can place any messages or information for me to see, and their behavior calendar. I ask that you initial or sign on each day of their behavior calendar so that I know you’ve seen it.

I’m excited to see what this week holds! If you have any questions feel free to contact me!

Welcome to 2nd Grade!

Hello parents and students!

I hope that you have all enjoyed your summer and have had some time to rest and also to partake in some fun activities. It has been a pretty busy, but fun filled summer for me.

I am looking forward to open house and also the first day of school, so that I can meet all of my students and my parents. I would love to see you all at open house this Monday from 5-7, however I do understand that we all have busy lives and certain responsibilities that we must take care of. So for those of you who can not make open house there is no need to fear. All informational handouts and forms will be sent home with your child on the first day of school.

I would like you all to know a bit about me before you send your child to school on Wednesday, so I am attaching a copy of "Meet the Teacher" below.

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to OUR second grade classroom. My name is Nozsa Tinsley and I am very excited about our adventure this year in second grade. I am sure that this will be a year filled with learning, fun, and excitement. I am looking forward to getting to know you, and I would like to tell you a little about myself.
I am from the very small town of Lancaster, SC where my mom, dad, little brother and canine little sister still live. I am very very close with my family and enjoy going back home to visit and spend time with them. I attended the University of South Carolina (Go Gamecocks) for both my undergraduate and graduate career. I currently have a Masters in Elementary Education.
I enjoy reading, fishing, being social, baking, and staying active. I enjoy trying new things and especially new foods. I can’t wait to see what new activities we get to try as a class this year!

See you soon,
Miss Tinsley

I am sure that this will be a fun filled year and again, I can not wait to meet you all!
