Week TWO (August 25 – 29)
Another Exciting and busy week of school
has taken place!! We’ve continued to work on our classroom procedures and also
review math and ELA concepts from first grade. We’ve also started to
incorporate some brain breaks into our class through GO NOODLE! The kids love
this 5 to 10 minute break where they can get up and get active!!
Math
I am a true believer that we can learn mathematical concepts more
effectively through games. The students have been playing games such as “Sum
Dice”, “Race to 100”, and “Even Steven/Odd Todd” to explore addition, add and
even numbers. Not only have they been learning, but they’ve enjoyed playing the
games as well.
ELA
ELA has been very hands on for the students. They have been using
word play to help with their spelling and sight words. This week we began with
our first read aloud “Star Girl”. Students have also had time to visit our
classroom library and choose a book of their interest. We are still working on
choosing a “just right” book; so don’t be alarmed if your child comes home with
a book that he or she is struggling with.
Next Week
We will continue working on choosing a “just right book”,
addition, subtraction, and writing. We will also begin our first IB unit: WHERE WE ARE IN PLACE AND TIME! With this
unit we will be discussing communities. If you can, talk to your child about
what they believe a community is and what it consists of. I’m looking forward to
another awesome week!!
