Week 10 – 11 (October 24 – November 4)
We Pink We Can
We had a blast walking and chanting in our
pink to support the awareness of breast cancer! The school raised over $1,000
to help support the research of a cure.
Farm to Table
Thanks to some amazing chefs, the kids have learned some techniques for healthier eating!
Explores of SC
We’ve been studying the first explorers of
SC and the effects they had our state for quite some time now. Through studying
these explorers the students learned how to take quick notes with the help of
the step up to writing chart and summarizing through a paragraph. My hopes are that
this process of note taking and summarizing will carry over into new concepts
that we look into and that they will be able to note take and summarize
independently before the end of the school year.
The kids also created skits to present to
the class as a way to help them remember the different explorers and their
effect on SC.
Which Natural Disaster Do You Think Is The Most Dangerous?
After looking at the many types of natural
disasters that have affected our state and knowing that the kids were not ready
to move on from this, I thought it a perfect opportunity have them write an
opinion piece. I presented the kids with the question Which natural disaster do you
think is the most dangerous? They
then went through the author’s process and created their response to the
question. We used this opportunity to talk about staying on topic, fact vs. opinion,
hooks, closing sentences, and writing to an audience. These wonderful published
pieces can be found outside of our classroom on our bulletin board! Please come
check them out!!!
