Week 1
WHAT A FANTASTIC FIRST WEEK!!! The
kids were all excited to be back and it felt so good to have them back to fill
up the silence in the classroom. As many of you know, some of our student have moved to different
schools. We’ve had to say goodbye to Ja’Maya, Nicholas, Mohamed, Dorian, and
Joshua. However, we’ve gained some new friends as well. New to our class we
have…. drumroll please…Rusty, Gabby, Rivelo, Kevin, Tyla and Tyler! They have
quickly become part of our family and the kids have welcomed them with open arms!
This week we’ve been spending time
going over procedures, getting to know the classroom, and catching up with one
another. It’s been beautiful to watch the kids interact with one another,
dance, and enjoy themselves! Next week we will be diving into our 3rd
grade curriculum so please be sure to check your child’s binder and agenda for
any important information and assignments.
On Thursday we created self-portraits
of ourselves and included some important objects and characteristics of
ourselves. After witnessing their finished products, I’m convinced that the
kids are way better artists than I am.
Friday we did what the kids called
“an awesome birthday activity”. The kids could use anything other than their
verbal words to communicate with one another with the goal of grouping
themselves by their birthday month. I was so surprised and impressed by the
different techniques they used to communicate with one another. After they
grouped themselves we took pictures for our birthday chart!
I’m so impressed at how the kids
have grown over the summer, both socially and emotionally, and also academically.
I’m looking forward to working with each and every one of them! =)
