Week 2
We had
another fantastic week. This past week we reviewed some of the content we
learned from 2nd grade. We’ve taken a second look at character
traits, parts of a story, place value, and number representation on the number
line. The kids are enjoying the review as we’ve been playing lots of games such
as Kahoot, math race, dice jump, guess my number, etc.
Something
else that the kids have really been enjoying is our beginning of the year read
aloud One Crazy Summer! They are making so many predictions and
connections to the family in the story. The book is set in 1968 California
around 3 girls who are sent to visit their mother’s (who left them many years
ago) for the summer. There are many issues within the book in which we are
discussing in class and some subjects in which I’ve asked them to go home and
have discussions with their parents.
Character
Traits
We used One Crazy Summer to
discuss character traits. Their interest in the story allowed for a great
discussion on what character traits are and also what words do we use to label
or name those character traits. Here is what they came up with!
We’ve also been digging into various stories to look at what exactly a
story or book needs to be considered “great” or “good” or “ok”. Now that we
know what makes a story great, we will be creating our own amazing stories!
Place
Value
We
were able to speed through place value and what numbers actually represent
(number sense) because the kids retained a lot of knowledge from our previous
year together. I can tell that they have been engaging in some practice at
home, over the summer. So kudos to you guys and gals for taking time out to
work with them!
Regions of
SC
I never thought that geography could
be so much fun! The kids have enjoyed learning about their wonderful state.
They’ve memorized the 6 regions (we’ll be having a quiz on this Tuesday) and
the natural resources that can be found there. I’m ecstatic and surprised at
how quickly they are grasping the information. This coming week we will be working
on the different landforms that are in each region.
Friday
Snack
Each Friday as a thank you “for
being the best kids that a teacher could ask for”, the kids and I go outside to
write, read, socialize, and have a snack that I’ve prepared for them. It’s so
good to see them perform in the classroom, but it’s just as rewarding to watch
them perform with their peers!
Please continue to check your child’s
binder and PLEASE REMIND you child to inform me of any messages that you’ve
left for me in the communication log and I’ll do the same. Thank you for all
that you do!! =)
