Week 32
"Inhale confidence, exhale doubt"
~unknown~
We have such amazing kids who are all capable of doing amazing things inside and outside of the classroom. Let's make sure that we are telling our kids of their greatness each and every day! As educator and providers it's our duty to plant that confidence seed, water it each day, and watch it blossom into it's beauty!

Jeopardy
As we were preparing for our math state test, I decided to engage the kids in a little friendly competition to test their knowledge. The kids were split into two groups and they played against each other to see who could get the most points! The kids enjoyed themselves, challenged themselves, and showed themselves that they could do it! I am so proud of their hard work!

Reading Is Our Greatest Luxury
Reading is everything in our classroom. With the stresses of State testing weighing on everyone we’re taken some extra time out of our day to just relax and read. Reading is one of the few times in life that we can escape reality and venture off to some foreign land or become a new person. The kids have been able to enjoy some extra time this week to read their own personal books and also to do some extra reading with their book club friends.

Tribute to Prince
Our kids were first introduced to Prince last year when our former classmate Nicholas researched him for a project. We’ve listened to many of his songs and learned about his many efforts to help better the our planet. So when we found out Prince had passed away, it was a sullen moment for all (perhaps more so for me). We took the time Friday to honor Prince by wearing purple and to take a closer look at his lyrics. The kids are very analytical and had many opinions on what his different songs meant.

April 11 - 15

Week 31
We’ve had yet another great week of hard work and fun! The kids have really been putting in effort that shows just how dedicate they are to their education. It makes my heart so happy to see the kids excited about what we’re learning.

How far can you jump?
We’ve been working on data collection and different ways to display the data that we’ve found. We started with a whole class inquiry in “How far can you jump”. We collected our data by having each kid in our class jump, measuring that jump, and then compiling a list of how many students jumped what distance. We then decided to create a lien plot to display our data. The kids then ventured out into their own groups to answer a question. These questions consisted of: how many siblings do you have, how many pets do you have, and a few other questions. The kids also created line plots to display their data. You can check these line plots out in our hallways (once state testing is over)!!!

Poetry
As you all have heard, we’ve been diving into poetry and what type of author’s craft makes for the best poetry. As the kids have learned about these different author’s crafts, they’ve been experimenting with them and including them into their own pieces of writing. Our kids have a real talent for writing poetry.

Book Club
Book club is still in full swing and the kids are enjoying time to read with their classmates both inside and outside of the classroom. We have been very lenient with the structure of book club, but have discussed what it should look like, sound like, and feel like. The kids have been doing a great job reading and pausing for conversation to discuss what is or what they think will happen in the story. They’ve been great with helping each other when they are stuck on tricky word or don’t understand something from the story. Meeting for book club has become most of our favorite part of the day!

It’s Electric…boogie woogie!
We had an amazing in school field study to take a look at circuits and how they work. This was such an amazing experience for the kids to apply what they’ve learned.

Spirit Week
We’ve revved up our minds and our excitement levels for testing thanks to spirit week! I believe the most excitement we received was from our amazing book buddies! They gave a huge surprise on Friday as they came in with chants and cards to wish us good luck!

Getting Active
Our very own Zaria and Justus have really been getting active outside of the classroom. The local newspaper photographed Zaria as she skated down her block. Justus was getting down and dirty as he played in a baseball game with the rest of his teammates.
