November 9 - 13

Week 12

Veterans Day
What a beautiful ceremony that was given to the veterans! We spent our morning talking about what it means to be a “veteran” and how that sometimes can look very different. We also discussed patriotism. We were so lucky to have some veteran visitors from our class’ family. Zaria’s grandpa, Jordynn’s grandpa and dad, and Rusty’s uncle all came to spend some time with us! It was so amazing to see each of these men in their uniforms and to hear a little about their experiences!

Writing
We’re so excited, and we just can’t hide it! If you haven’t heard yet, we’ve published our first books of the year! I’m so proud of the hard work that the kids put into their stories. The author’s cycle, while natural, can be quite tedious and very time consuming. However, the kids stuck through it and were proud of their finished products! They were even more excited and proud to share their books with their book buddies!

Reading
Reading has always been a hobby for us, but we’ve been able to experience reading through some different avenues!
Reading with Mrs. Griggs
Mrs. Griggs is such a fantastic teacher and she knows so many of our kids personally! I asked if she could come read to the kids because I knew that it would warm their hearts! She always picks the most amazing books to read, and this time she chose The Adventures of Beekle: The Unimaginary Friend! It is such a brilliantly written book with vibrant pictures that encourages kids to find their imagination and run wild with it!

Reading with the Gamecocks
Although Reading with the Gamecocks was offered to all of our kids, only 4 turned in their reading log! I was shocked with the participation rate because our kids love to read, I’m assuming that they just decided that they didn’t want to fill out the reading log. On Sunday Jordynn, Ms. Palmer, Tyla, Mrs. McCain, and I all went to the Lady Gamecocks basketball game and cheered them on! It was such a fun time! Hopefully we will have more participants for the next Reading with the Gamecocks.

Book Buddies

As we do every Friday, we spent it reading with out wonderful book buddies. This week was even more special because we were able to share our own published books with our book buddies! You should have been there to see the pride and joy on the kids’ faces as they shared their books!!!! I’m looking forward to our next published books!! =)
