April
27 – May 1 (week 33)
“The more
that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more
places you'll go.”
Dr. Seuss
If
there is one thing we love to do most in our classroom, its read! I’m so happy
that my kidos have a love for reading because I too love to read! Whenever you
can share your love of doing something with those around you, it makes for a
beautiful experience! We’ve discussed as a class some of the reasons we
personally love reading so much! Some of the kids’ responses were: “I get to go
to places I’ve never been”, “I like to pretend”, “I get to be a new character”,
and “It helps me relax”! There is an infinite amount of reasons that we all
love to read. I’m beyond happy that our kids have found the joy in reading!
Book
Clubs
After
much anticipation, our book clubs have begun! We have 4 books clubs going right
now. We’re reading Lulu and the
Brontosaurus, Abby Takes a Stand, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, and
The Schoolyard Mystery. I’m so sad
that the kids got started without me, but luckily Mrs. Griggs was able to get
them started. I hear the book clubs are off to a great start! I’m beyond excited
to get back to hear about their reading and sharing experiences!
Non-fiction
Text
Although
we all have a love for fictional reading, my hope is to set a seed for the kids
to grow a love for non-fiction reading as well. We’ve been using non-fiction to
do our severe weather research. The kids seem to love using the text to learn
new facts. We will also be using some non-fiction texts as we take on our new
IB unit: Sharing the Planet. With this unit we will be discussing the basic
needs of animals. We have lots of kids who are fascinated with animals, so I’m
excited to see where this unit goes!
