Week 35 (May 11-15)

May 11 – 15 (week 35)
This week we went on some new and exciting endeavors…

Switching roles
Last week as we finished up our severe Weather research we were able to present our findings to Ms. Layman’s class. Well this past week, Ms. Layman’s class wanted us to serve as their audience so that they could present their findings to us. They did such a fantastic job and the kids learned so much! They were by far the best audience I’ve ever seen!

Collecting Data
The students worked extremely hard this week to collect data from multiples sources and for multiple reasons. First the students created questions to poll the class. Some included: what is your favorite color; what is your favorite pet; do you have any pets. Once they collected their data they experimented with different graphs to represent their data and to display to their classmates.

Being that our kids are infatuated with tattoos, we decided to use that interest to drive our learning. We polled the school in order to get their opinion on tattoos. We first collected data to see which Windsor teachers had a tattoo. We graphed this information in the form of a bar graph. We also polled the teachers to see if they thought that teacher should be able to have tattoos and why or why not. We received some interesting responses, but we are still looking at our data and discussing it. We are looking forward to presenting our results!

Here are some of the responses we received and the kids' response to those comments.
"Maybe they wanted credit for changing it"
"Maybe they need to understand it better"
"Maybe they thought they were better than us"

 "They didn't follow directions"
"They forgot the why not"

 "she's right...just follow the rules"

"But it's not for other people, its for them"
"Well...what if they don't like our hair? Does that mean we can't wear it either?"

"That's kind of rude"
"They didn't want us to know their name because they are ashamed."
"Adults are suppose to think better than that"

This week we will continue to look at our survey data and we will also be moving on to our animal research! WoohooO! =)
